Hiking Murray Canyon after major rain

Near Palm Springs, CA there is an area called Indian Canyons that features more than 60 miles of hiking and walking trails. One of the easier trails is Murray Canyon to Seven Sisters Waterfall. This trail is around 4 miles if you don’t do the additional Coffman loop. This trail features many water crossings. Over the weekend California had major rain with flash floods leaving me wondering can I hike Murray Canyon?

So Sunday, during a cool February morning,  I drove down to Palm Springs from Morongo Casino (my temporary free parking) to take the challenge. Fortunate to have beautiful weather, I arrived a few minutes before they open. You can’t enter until 8 am and they do not allow pets. There is a $9 (cash or charge)  entry fee. Given the numerous areas to explore I recommend making a day of it.

The Murray Canyon trail head is close to the park entry. When heading down I recommend you follow your map when you hit the parking lot. There are multiple parking areas and you want to get to the Murray Canyon section. It is worth getting here early, as the parking lot was quite full by 10:30 am. There was a nice park ranger onsite to help direct traffic.

I was pretty much alone on the trail until I was almost done making it a very quiet and peaceful hike.

I took many pictures and videos of the water crossings.  Check out my video to follow along with me.

Warnings/Apologies: As a newbie to trail filming, I was not always mindful of the direction of my camera, apologies for any rough spots.
